The pelotons lined up for evening criteriums on Saturday in Boise, Idaho to contest a four-corner city circuit with both elite women's and men's fields racing 70 min🐷utes.
W🅘earing her new Pan American champion’s jersey, Skylar Schneider won women’s fifth round of ACC, followed by Paola Munzo (Miami Nights) outsprinting Marlies Mejias Garcia (Virginia's Blue Ridge Twenty24) for the final spots on the podium. She took off with six laps to go and the field could not come close. She said her solo win was dictated by ‘strength in numbers’, the L39ION women having six rid🍃ers at Boise.
“The team rode so strong the whole night. It was a really strong field and we played to our strength i🏅n numbers,” she said.
“It was all about controlling the effort. I knew I had to go as hard as possible in the back straight. Then I needed to go easy on the corners, try to recover as much as possible ✱in the corners, and [go] hard on the long straight. I knew the girls were behind me, so if I got caught they would have a good chance in the sprint. So I thought I’d just leave it all out there.”
Andrea Cyr (Miami Nights) came into Boise as the ACC women’s individual leader, and with her 11th place finish relinquished the lead to her teammate Paola Muꦺnoz. Kim Lucie (DNA Pr꧅o Cycling) continued as the women’s sprint leader.
In the men's race, L39ION of Los Angeles went 1-2 with Magner taking the victory and Cory Williams in second place, and Justin Williams finishing fourth. Danny Summerhill (American Cycling Group) rounded out the podium in 🍨third place.
Summerhill came into Boise as the lone representative for American Cycling and with his third-place finish moved back into the individual lead of the ACC for men. He displaced Alfredo Rodriguez (Miami Nights), who slipped out of the lead when an untimely crash and mechanical in the final꧂ quarter of the race took its toll.
“We started out really well, I felt good until we crashed and I had a probℱlem with my seat post. From there it was difficult to maintain the points lead. At 40 mins into racing, Clever [Martinez] gave me his bike. I tried to finish the race in the best way possible but it didn’t turn out very well," said Rodriguez, who finished 19th.
The next stop for the ACC is ✱neꦉxt weekend in Salt Lake City.
