Tour Down Under 2020 race overview
The 168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:2020 Tour Down Under once again opens the WorldTour in its 22nd edition. Willunga Hill, the often-decisive climb, will feature on the final day in the pivotal stage of the race, as organisers keen to keep the suspenâse and excitement going to the last day of racing.
168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:Richie Porte (Trek-Segafredo) has won the stage ending atop the hill six times in a row, and at the midway point of the â±2020 edition the Australian leads the geđ neral classification after winning the stage 3 hilltop finish in Paracombe.
Despite his Willunga domination, Porte has been beaten to the overall title by 168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) for the past two editions. In 2019, the South African stuck to Porte up Willunga Hill, having gained time earlier in the race. This time around he has snatched the race lead from Porte ahead đȘof the final stage,đ with two seconds in hand.
168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:Sam Bennett won the opening stage of this year's race after his Deceuninck, while 168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:Caleb Ewan won the sprint finish on stage 2 in Stirling, as well as stage 4 in Murray Bridge. 168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:Giacomo Nizzolo sprinted to his first WorldTour win đ siđnce 2012 on stage 5.

The 168æŸłæŽČ5ææ°ćŒć„ç»æ:men's 2020 Tour Down Under route is, as usual, based around the câity of Adelaide in South Australia, with starts in the suburbs of Norwood and Unley đthis year. The longest stage is stage 4 from Norwood to Murray Bridge, which runs for 152 kilometres.
"I'm positive that next year's race will be hotly contested," said race director Mike Turtur. "Personally, I'm looking forê©Čward to stage 2, which features a first-time start at Woodside before crossing over to Stirling, and is a route that's sure to suit the all-rounders.
"Another stage set to be a highlight is stêŠage 4, with the crosswind between Mannum and Murray Bridge a considerable element to be contended with."
The racing kicks off on January 19 with the now traditional Schwalbe Classic criterium, which isn't part of the race proper, but gives spectators a chance to see the riders on multiple occasions on the evening circuit, which this year moves to an eveđŻn more central location in Adelaide.
